Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a wide array of personalities, and a gripping narrative showcasing celestial beings, evil spirits, and malevolent powers increasing in influence within the city.
Note: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 lie ahead.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
The third episode concluded with a major cliffhanger and revealed the first table of adventurers who will branch out from the primary party to begin their independent quest, distinct from the additional parties.
The Soldiers table features Teor (played by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).
The Reason for Division
Considering a large ensemble, it was evident from the outset that having everyone at a single group would be impossible.
Hence, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, intertwining the individual narratives before branching into three distinct groups: Fighters, Strategists, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Warrior Group
According to the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for participants who prefer a classically intense fight-heavy narrative style where peaceful solutions are scarce.
Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander might seem mismatched, but the events of episode 3 make it clear why these specific adventurers are best suited for the combat party.
Why They Must Go
First, the group knows exactly where to proceed after a intense opening clash with the enemy group.
A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose death kicked off the story’s plot—exploited The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, invading the hidden lair, striking the rogue, and swiping all the enchanted items to sell off.
The traitor then settled his debts and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Individual Reasons
Moreover, each member has a individual motive to depart the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as the close ally and closest confidant, seeks retribution.
- The knowledgeable figure has experience in the northern area and advises that it is a hostile place.
- The warrior and Wicander, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to execute the fighter and instead rescued him, have no other options.
- But, their status as important members in the influential clan could help the group enter areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Additionally, The fighter pledged a unbreakable promise to The savior for his deliverance and will now accompany him wherever.
Wanted and Hunted
Finally, all of them are wanted by the rulers that control Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind no longer safe:
- The agile adventurer and Kattigan are known criminals.
- Tyranny and The healer betrayed the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
- The fighter is targeted for elimination by the family.
This results in them few options but to travel to the northern region in search of the antagonist.
